YuE2 Styles and Languages: Which Languages Work, and What to Do for Hindi or Afrikaans

YuE2 sings in four languages: English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Hindi and Afrikaans are not supported. For Hindi, switch to ACE-Step 1.5, the other model in Song Creator Pro, which supports it officially. Afrikaans isn't supported by either model, but there are workarounds below. Styles are far less limited: the developers' own demos cover 70 genres, from Thrash Metal to Bluegrass, Enka and Ethio-Jazz.

New to the model? Start with what YuE2 is.

Which Model for Which Language

Lyrics language YuE2 Best choice in Song Creator Pro
English Supported YuE2 or ACE-Step 1.5
Mandarin Chinese Supported YuE2 or ACE-Step 1.5
Japanese Supported YuE2 or ACE-Step 1.5
Korean Supported YuE2 or ACE-Step 1.5
Spanish, Russian Not supported ACE-Step 1.5
Cantonese Not supported ACE-Step 1.5
Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi Not supported ACE-Step 1.5
Afrikaans Not supported Neither officially; record your own vocal and use Layer

English and Mandarin have the most official testing behind them, so they are the most consistent. For Japanese and Korean, generate a small batch and keep the best take.

Can YuE2 Sing in Hindi?

Not officially. Hindi doesn't appear in YuE2's demos, benchmark or model card. What to do instead, most reliable first:

  1. Switch to ACE-Step 1.5. Hindi is on its official vocal language list, along with Urdu and Punjabi. Write your lyrics in Hindi, select ACE-Step 1.5 and set the Language field to Hindi. See how to turn lyrics into a song for the steps.
  2. Sing it yourself and add the band with Layer. Record your own Hindi vocal, load it into the Layer tool and describe the arrangement. See how to add instruments to a song with AI.
  3. Experiment with YuE2. Try one batch with the lyrics in Latin letters and one in Devanagari, add "Hindi" to the style prompt, and have a native speaker check the pronunciation. We know of no published results for this.

Can YuE2 Sing in Afrikaans?

No, and Afrikaans isn't on ACE-Step 1.5's list either. None of these is guaranteed, but they can help:

  • Record the vocal yourself and use Layer. The only way to be sure the Afrikaans is right.
  • Try ACE-Step 1.5 with the language set to Dutch, which Afrikaans developed from. Expect a Dutch accent at best, and have a fluent speaker check it.
  • Make an instrumental and add the vocal later. Leave YuE2's lyrics empty, as described in the YuE2 prompting guide, then record over the result.

Which Styles YuE2 Handles

The official Genre Explorer has 99 demo songs in 70 genres. A sample, grouped by us:

Group Genres in the official demos
Rock and metal Indie Rock, Heartland Rock, Space Rock, Glam Metal, Thrash Metal, Industrial Metal, Cyber Metal, Rap Metal
Jazz and swing Cool Jazz, Big Band, Dixieland, Jazz-Funk, Jazz-Rock, Afro-Jazz, Ethio-Jazz, Swing Revival
Dance and electronic Disco, Nu-Disco, Italo-Disco, Hi-NRG, Eurobeat, Electropop, Electronic Dance Music, Folktronica
Country, folk and gospel Bluegrass, Honky Tonk, Country Pop, Country Rock, Southern Gospel, Country Gospel
Soul, blues and R&B Soul, Southern Soul, Soul Blues, Jump Blues, Boogie Woogie, R&B
Regional Flamenco, Bachata, Reggaetón, Bhangra, Arabic Pop, Afro Trap, Enka, City Pop, J-Pop
Everything else Barbershop, Comedy, Ambient, Dark Ambient, Grime, Lo-Fi Hip Hop, Yacht Rock, Classical Music

A demo gallery shows the developers' best results, not typical ones, and the technical report has no scores by genre. What it does show is that no mainstream genre is off limits.

Regional styles don't need regional languages. The Bachata, Reggaetón and Afro Trap demos are sung in English. If your language isn't supported but your style is, sing in English or Mandarin: the language is the limit, not the genre.

How to Prompt for a Style

The official guide's rule: put "genre, instruments, vocal character, language, and tempo" in the style field, and only the sung words in the lyrics field. We recommend short tags in this order: language (if not English), genre, instruments, vocal, mood, tempo.

Japanese, eurobeat, fast synth arpeggios, driving four-on-the-floor kick, bright female vocal, 150 BPM
bluegrass, banjo, fiddle, upright bass, mandolin, high lonesome male vocal, close harmonies, upbeat
Mandarin, city pop, slap bass, electric piano, shimmering guitars, smooth female vocal, night drive mood
flamenco rap fusion, nylon-string guitar, cajón, palmas, deep male rap vocal, festive, 95 BPM

Tips:

  • Name the subgenre. "Thrash metal" and "glam metal" sound nothing alike; "metal" alone leaves the choice to the model.
  • Match the language tag to the lyrics. A "Japanese" tag on English lyrics sends mixed signals (why).
  • Describe the voice, not a singer. "Raspy male vocal", not a famous name (why).
  • Generate 2 to 4 takes. Style varies most between takes. YuE2's top benchmark score came from the best of eight.

More tags and formatting rules are in the YuE2 prompting guide. To restyle an existing song, see how to remix a song with YuE2.

How We Know: The Official Evidence

YuE2's release has no single "supported languages" list. Here is what each official source shows, checked on 16 October 2026 in the YuE repository, the YuE2-3B model card, the technical report and the demo page:

Source What it shows
Hugging Face model card Language tags: English and Chinese
Technical report benchmark 192 test prompts: 94 Chinese, 98 English
Demo gallery (data dated 13 September 2026) 99 songs: 56 English, 31 Chinese, 9 Japanese, 1 Korean, 1 Spanish, 1 Russian
Cover demos English or Mandarin vocals
  • Spanish and Russian have one showcase song each, which isn't proof of support.
  • Latin-letter demos: a few demos labeled "English" are other languages written in Latin letters, such as Punjabi in the Bhangra demo and Arabic in the Arabic Pop demo. They are single hand-picked examples.
  • Cantonese was supported by the original YuE (January 2025), which also shipped separate language versions. YuE2 is a single model without Cantonese, so older guides that promise it describe the original YuE. Use ACE-Step 1.5 for Cantonese.

Frequently Asked Questions

English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean. English and Mandarin have the most official testing behind them: the model card tags both, and every benchmark prompt is in one or the other. Other languages, including Cantonese, Spanish, Hindi and Afrikaans, are not supported; use ACE-Step 1.5 for those where it lists them.

No. Hindi does not appear in any official YuE2 demo, model card tag or evaluation. For Hindi vocals, use ACE-Step 1.5, which lists Hindi among its vocal languages and is included in Song Creator Pro, or record your own vocal and build the music around it with the Layer tool.

No, and ACE-Step 1.5's official language list does not include Afrikaans either. The dependable option is to sing the vocal yourself and use Layer to build the music around it. You can also try ACE-Step 1.5 with Afrikaans lyrics and the language set to Dutch, but treat it as an experiment and have a fluent speaker check the result.

Korean, yes: it is one of YuE2's four supported languages. Cantonese, no. The original YuE from January 2025 supported Cantonese, but YuE2 does not. ACE-Step 1.5 lists Cantonese, so use it for Cantonese vocals.

The official Genre Explorer has 99 songs in 70 genres, including rock and metal subgenres, jazz from Dixieland to Ethio-Jazz, disco and Eurobeat, bluegrass and gospel, soul and blues, and regional styles like Flamenco, Bachata, Bhangra, Enka and City Pop. The developers publish no scores by genre, so the gallery shows how wide YuE2's range is, not which genres it does best.

No. The original YuE shipped a list of its 200 most common tags, but YuE2's documentation just says to describe the genre, instruments, vocal character, language and tempo in the style prompt. Its official example is "English, jazz-funk, warm lead vocal, Rhodes, bass and drums".

Yes, the official demos show that working. The Bachata and Afro Trap demos are sung in English, so a regional style with English or Mandarin lyrics is a reasonable request. The language you sing in is the limit, not the genre.

In the style prompt, as a plain tag such as "Japanese" or "Mandarin", ideally at the start. Then write the lyrics in that same language.
